New Brakes

It was like Christmas when i got the box of bits lol. We managed to get the fronts done and it was a nice easy job really. Felt weird having to jack it up and take the wheels off. The discs are 260mm which means the Sierra had ABS. Ordered a hydraulic switch too to work the brake lights. Still need to do the rears.

Engine & Gearbox In

Finally found the right clutch so our combination is 1999 2.0L blacktop Zetec, 1.8L Zetec flywheel, 1993 1.8L Mondeo clutch, 1990 mtx75 Sierra gearbox. We had to modify the release bearing pivot point as the bearing was too far away from the new clutch. We did this by taking out the old pivot and making a longer one then used a nut on the back to secure it. 

We managed to get the brake lines finished and we're ready to run the fuel lines so we thought we might as well plonk the engine and gearbox in. We had to hump it from one end of garage to the other because sods law the car was the wrong way around, the caravan was in the way to turn the car and the bar with the hoist on was too far away from the engine. We struggled a bit but got there in the end. Everything lined up great but we made a bit of an error originally by putting the engine too far back without the thermostat housing on and when we have put it back on it doesn't fit! ooops. We can get around this though by making are own water rail.

 

On The Ground & Brake Lines Done

Decided we should get it off the trestles and on to the ground because the engine will be going in soon and it would be hard work to get it down when that's in. Finished off the brake lines too and realised we had to swap the lines over on the master cylinder. There are 2 different outputs on the master cylinder one has a P and one has an S. We have used the P outputs for the front brakes and one S output split with a t piece for the rear brakes. The other S output will be used for the brake light switch.

Bolted the radiator and horn on too.

Coilovers!

Didn't expect to have these anytime soon but found a bargain on eBay and they arrived yesterday so we had to try them on obviously :)

They are Avo coilovers which measure 14" from hole to hole. Won an eBay auction and paid £215 inc postage so roughly half price of a new pair. Cleaned them up as they were a bit dirty and they fit perfectly so well happy with them. Front ones are not fully tightened yet because the ball joints need to come off again. The back ones are bolted up nice and tight.

Wheels on!

Really good day yesterday everything went right for a change so that was nice.

We had some old wheels that we had been given a while ago so we're going to use them. Plan is to powder them satin black with some new tyres. Tried them on for fit and they're perfect! exciting to see it with wheels on looks like a real car.

Dad got some really nice braided brake lines made up so we started plumbing them in. Not too bad a job this one just a couple of awkward rivets. We made some ali strips to go down the inside of the tunnel to hold the brake lines, fuel line and wiring loom. Then it was just a case of shaping the copper pipe and remembering to put the connections on before hand. We used p clips with rubber insides to hold the copper pipe and spaced them every 200mm just to be safe for Mr IVA. Got the rears done but didn't have time to do the fronts yet.
