Bye Bye Sierra (Part One)

Not done anything for a while due to a combination of busy weekends and waiting for parts to arrive. So we finally got round to making a start on stripping the Sierra this weekend.

Health & safety what?.....

 Gearbox

Diff

Subframe out

Diff off

Diff in the washing machine or diff washer as my dad called it lol.

Only got round to taking the back end out this time. The parts we removed are propshaft, diff, driveshafts, hubs, calipers and handbrake cables. Part 2 will be engine, gearbox etc...

Transmission Tunnel

Finished off the transmission tunnel today. We followed the new diagrams form the haynes forum (Link) for the MT75 gearbox as the book is designed around the type 9 box which is slightly narrower. We used 25mm bar for the top front bars not 19mm as we had a load left and not much 19mm bar left. Also buggered up a little bit by lining up the rear bars level with the upright bars where as we should of lined them up above the upright bars but it wont matter and makes it more level anyhow.

Got these mushroom inserts from ebay bargain £26 should be £50... Winner!
They are used to connect the upper front wishbones to the sierra hubs.

Rear End

Got a bit more done over the weekend quite proud of my effort with the rear diff box section as i did it all on my own :)

Iv been drawing each section of the chassis on Sketchup as we build it this is what we have so far. We have started the transmition tunnel as shown in these pics but i havent got round to taking any actual photos of it yet.

Main Tub Done

Couldn't resist!

Its taking shape now. Next job will be the transmission tunnel not the rear like the book says because we still need to make the plates for the rear diff and suspension section.

Progress

Got ourselves a donor! She's a beauty drives really well for a 22 year old H reg. She's a 2.0l dohc ghia 5 speed manual box. Rear discs are a massive bonus too as we wanted them but thought we would have to source them somewhere else. Need to get diff out to see what it is yet. The interior was cleaner than my car!

Got the front frame made and some uprights tacked on.

The top rail is not fixed yet it was just for positioning the uprights propperly
